Some of the world’s best race car
simulators will feature at Speedshow 2008 with a new simulator zone being
created to offer fans a more interactive experience to compliment the wide array
of motorsport-related cars, teams and products that made Speedshow so popular
last year.
Speedshow organiser
Keith Sharp is working with leading
race car simulator manufacturers Hyper Stimulator New Zealand and Simdeck to
make the simulator zone an exciting component of the unique motorsport
expo.
“Not only will motorsport fans enjoy
some truly fantastic vehicle displays, Speedshow’s simulator zone brings a fun,
interactive dimension to the event,” says Sharp. “My interest in the race car
simulators from Hyper Stimulator was really sparked when I found out race car
drivers use them for training.
“Two-time New Zealand V8 champion
John McIntyre has bought one from Hyper Stimulator and, when he still lived in
New Zealand, Shane van Gisbergen was a regular at Hyper Stimulator’s Auckland Race and Retail
Centre and now owns two of the modules well-known for their V8 Supercar race
simulations – one in Auckland, and the other with him in Australia,” says Hyper
Stimulator New Zealand’s Stuart Jones
With numerous race car drivers
scheduled to appear at Speedshow, Jones says he is arranging a series of races
on the simulators.
“With the simulators linked into the
same game, we can run a virtual race with drivers from a range of motorsport
disciplines. They could be in V8
Supercars, modern or historic single seater race cars, or whatever we specify
for that race. We’re coming up with new ideas all the time to make
the simulator zone a heap of fun for everyone at Speedshow,” says Jones. “We’re really
delighted to be associated with Speedshow 2008. The event promises to be a real
spectacle for motorsport competitors and fans
alike.”
The Speedshow simulator zone also
includes Formula 1-style simulators from Simdeck and will be open both days of
Speedshow, 9am to 6pm on Saturday 20 September and 9am to 5pm on Sunday 21
September.
Speedshow 2008 also showcases a
one-off retrospective of some of Ken Smith’s race cars as a celebration of his
outstanding achievement of 50 consecutive seasons of motor racing, along with
the best products, cars and technology available from most of New
Zealand’s leading providers in the motorsport
and related motor vehicle and accessory sectors.
The expo website,
www.speedshow.co.nz, is updated frequently with news of displays, live action,
and the wide range of motorsport-related businesses exhibiting at Speedshow
2008.
