At the Vintage Automobile Racing Association of Canada’s (VARAC) Vintage
Festival at Mosport June 20 to 22. Nat Adams will be reunited with the Canadian
built Can-Am Chinook Mk 5 which he drove to win the over two liter Canadian
Championship in 1967.
Adams had been Canadian National Champion in 1965 and entered the very first
Can-Am at Mont Tremblant in a Cooper. With sponsorship from Veedol the Chinook
was acquired for the 1967 season and was used primarily to contest the Canadian
Championship, though it did run the Can-Am event at Mosport.
The Chinook was built in the Toronto workshop of George and Rudy Fejer. The
car closely resembled the McLaren but with the Fejer’s own touches. It was
powered by a Chev 383 V8 which was smaller than most of the engines being used,
but was a comparative bargain price -wise. With McLaren’s going for $15,000.00
the Chinook was priced at $12,000.00. The Fejer’s will also be at Mosport to
take part in the celebration.
Anthony Taylor, who is bringing the car over from England where it has run at
Goodwood is enthused about the prospect of having a hand in bringing driver, car
and builder back together.
