Rui Chagas was in action in Albacete
this weekend, for the 4th round of the Spanish Endurance
Cup.
Chagas was joined once again by the
experienced Stefan Hodgetts, from the UK, and the duo put on a good performance
in qualifying once again, securing a 3rd and 2nd place on the grid for the two
races to be held over the weekend.
Driving a Seat Leon for Portuguese
team Oasis Motorsport, Hodgetts imposed a strong rhythm during his stint.
However, before handing over the wheel to team mate Chagas the turbo developed a
problem, and the Portuguese driver could do no better than bringing the car to
the end of the race in 5th place.
Chagas lined up for Sunday’s race on
the front row of the grid and was attacking from the very beginning. The race
was interrupted by a red flag situation and, much to everyone’s surprise, the
car would not start when the race was resumed, forcing Chagas to start from the
pitlane. Chagas and Hodgetts drove a strong race, making up many positions, but
in the end 5th place was the best they could
do.
With this result the Portuguese
driver, supported by Petronas and Holmes Place, is now 2nd in this
competitive championship.
“This time everything went
against our expectations. After the double win in Cartagena we were looking for
another good result here in Albacete. In any case, something unexpected can
always happen in racing, so the two 5th places we got here are still important
for the championship.”
The championship heads into its
summer break now, and the drivers will be back in action in Barcelona on
September 6th and 7th.
