GP2: ROUND 7 RACE 2 MAGNY COURS, FRANCE
Great Britain’s Adam Carroll knew he had a tough race on his hands starting from 20th position on the grid for the GP2 sprint race. After struggling through the traffic the Racing Engineering driver eventually finished in 14th.
“I had a clutch problem at the start and lost a few places. But I
managed to claw them back but it was really very frustrating for me.
Once I got stuck in the traffic, it was game over.”
By the end of lap 2 Carroll had moved up to 18th but the progress
through the field slowed down and at the half way point of the race,
the 23 year old from Portadown in Northern Ireland was in 14th and
stuck behind a 6-car French and Spanish road block and unfortunately
that’s where he stayed until the chequered flag.
And despite being the feeder series to F1, there was a GP2 victory
blessed with experience. The race was won by former Jordan F1 driver
Giorgio Pantano, driving for Renault F1 driver Giancarlo Fisichella’s
FMS team. The next round of the GP2 championship is in 2 weeks time in
Hockenheim, Germany.
