Pat Doran and his team are working round the clock
to ready their recently acquired ex-Dermot Carnegie Fiesta and
transport the car to Norway in time for this weekend's Norwegian ERC
round after Doran's own car was heavily damaged in a fire
yesterday.
Doran's car was being transported to Immingham
to travel to Norway when the transporter caught fire. "Someone
following the truck managed to get the driver's attention and make
him stop because he was unaware that the truck was on fire",¯ said
team spokesperson Amy Doran. "The fire brigade arrived quickly but
there is a lot of damage to both the truck and the car. Pat has been
to look at the car with the engineers today and it is going to need
to be stripped to a bare shell and completely
rebuilt."
Doran initially feared that the incident would
keep him out of this week's ERC event in Norway and the following
weekend's Swedish round of the championship but has met with his
engineers today and agreed to try and make it to Norway with the
Carnegie car.
"There is some work to do on the car but everyone
is prepared to work as long as it takes to get it ready and try to
make the Norwegian event," said Amy Doran.
Doran bought the Carnegie car as part of his
preparation to run a two-car team of Fiestas in next year's British
and European championships but had not planned to race it this year.
Although Carnegie mainly confined his activities to the British and
Irish championships, he did drive the Fiesta in the Dutch ERC round
last year where he was classified 21st.
