Bathurst set to rock around the clock in February PDF Print E-mail
Wednesday, 25 June 2008
For the third year in succession Bathurst will ‘rock around the clock’ with the 2009 WPS Bathurst 12 Hour Showroom Enduro set to be contested around Mount Panorama on February 20-22 next year. Next year’s event will be the third running of the around the clock stanza since it was reborn as a joint initiative between the Bathurst Regional Council and Global Entertainment Team.

The Event will be sanctioned by CAMS and GET has re-appointed Spherix to administer the 12 Hour Competitors.

Event Director James O’Brien said the decision to maintain the February date was aimed at “providing consistency for planning purposes, positioning the Race as the first national event of the year and avoiding clashes with other major motorsport events."

“We hope this will continue to act as an incentive for competitors and fans alike, who are looking to get into some serious motorsport action after the long summer lay-off.”

With the announcement of the date, the call is going out to all the motorsport fraternity to throw their hats in the ring for what is shaping up to be an enthralling tussle for bragging rights if the past two 12-hour races are anything to go by.

Eligible vehicles will be those listed on the final eligibility list (draft supplied below), or as approved by CAMS complying with 2009 CAMS Group 3E eligibility criteria under the $125,000 price cap.

There is expected to be a total of 11 classes in the 12-hour Event, including a two diesel-powered categories, a category for V8 Utes and SUVs along with a specific MINI category.

To ensure further consistency across the board a three-year moratorium has been implemented on any major rule changes.

“Following feedback from the manufacturers and competitors from the previous two Events, it appears they are more than happy with the base structure and eligibility of the event,” said Craig Denyer category manager Spherix.

“Essentially the class makeup will be those cars that are eligible for the Australian Performance Car and Australian Production Car Championships, plus the continuation of an eco diesel/hybrid class and a class for V8 Utes. Also included is a class for cars with automatic or semi-automatic transmissions.”

International drivers are invited to compete in the WPS 12 Hour Showroom Enduro provided they hold an International ‘visa’ through their local FIA/ASN affiliate.
