"It
will help fill the gap for the 1993 to 1996 Australian Touring Car
Championship cars which aren't yet eligible for historic competition,
with a number of significant cars out there sitting in sheds.
"The
Sports Sedan class has been created primarily for cars built to Future
Tourer regulations with these cars now eligible to run in the series
until the end of 2009."
Shannons
Nationals organisers have also confirmed the opening round of the 2009
season will take place at Bathurst's Mount Panorama on 20-22 February.
The Shannons Nationals will provide five support categories for the WPS Bathurst 12 Hour.
Returning
to the heyday of Porsche Cup races at Bathurst, the Porsche GT3 Cup
Challenge and Porsche 944 competitors will share a grid, while Saloon
Cars, the HQ National Series, Formula Vee and Improved Production will
also tackle the famed 6.213km circuit.
"It's a good partnership with the 12 Hour and the categories are really excited about going to Bathurst," Curkpatrick said.
"All five categories will go to Bathurst with strong grids for what's set to be a great start to the 2009 Shannons Nationals."
With
seven categories, Round Five of this year's Shannons Nationals at
Eastern Creek on 12-13 July will feature a jam-packed weekend of
motorsport, with practice, qualifying and three races on Saturday ahead
of 18 races on Sunday.
In
a great-value day of entertainment, Sunday tickets are just $20
including grandstand seating and pit access, with kids 12 and under
free.
