Huddersfield’s Daniel Lloyd enjoyed a near faultless test outing at
Snetterton Circuit yesterday, Thursday, 26th June, in preparation for the start
of the second half of the 2008 Ginetta Junior Championship at the Norfolk venue
a fortnight from now.
The 16-year-old race ace, who heads towards the 13th and 14th rounds of his
debut campaign in cars third overall in the driver standings with two victories
and one pole position to his credit, lapped the 1.95-mile track with a best
effort of 1m 28.22 seconds on unofficial timings.
Even though he has never driven at Snetterton before, Daniel immediately
leapt onto front-running pace and just halfway through the morning session he
was the fastest of the Ginetta Junior drivers.
Consistently quick during the day, Daniel’s test programme was interrupted
slightly in the afternoon due to a problem with the rear shock absorbers but
aside from this one small issue, the remainder of the outing went very smoothly
indeed for the British Racing Drivers’ Club (BRDC) Stars of Tomorrow Scholarship
winner.
“The test went brilliantly, I’m really pleased with how quick we were”,
said Daniel, “The conditions were very good and the work we’ve done ahead of the
next two rounds of the championship could prove to be crucial. I didn’t honestly
think we’d be as quick at such a power circuit, especially during my first time
there, but I was pleasantly surprised!
“We set our best time of the day part way through the morning and then it
took the other drivers most of the day to match what we had been doing so that’s
given me an extra confidence boost ahead of the Snetterton races in a couple of
weeks.”
He added: “I really can’t wait for the championship to resume. It’s been a
long time since we took the two wins at Croft but now I’ve been on the top step
of the podium I want more. I’m quite confident at Snetterton we could be
stronger than we first thought we would be, I’m really looking forward to
it.”
After a lengthy four week break since his dominant double-race winning
performance at Croft in North Yorkshire, there are now just two more weeks to
wait until the resumption of the Ginetta Junior Championship. Rounds 13 and 14
will take place at Snetterton over the weekend 12th/13th July in support of the
HiQ MSA British Touring Car Championship.
