With just over a week to go before the 2008 Armstrong Massey Rally gets
underway on Sunday July 6th, organisers Beverley & District Motor Club have
been hard at work putting the last minute preparations together.
As ever, marshals are needed for the single venue rally at Driffield
Airfield, East Yorkshire which will see around fifty crews competing over the
eight stages which comprises a total mileage of 56 miles.
In order to help recruit the necessary assistance, the organisers have
received a very generous donation from Silverstone Rally School (www.silverstonerally.co.uk) of a
large number of 10% discount vouchers to be given out to marshals, as well as a
free half day session to one lucky marshal. Everyone is welcome, whether
experienced or not, and radio marshals are needed also. If possible, any
prospective marshals should bring a tabard with them.
Signing on is from 7:30am to 8am, and the event is scheduled to be finished
by about 4:30pm meaning a relatively early finish for all concerned. This will
take place at the entrance to the venue, which is on the A614 just to the South
West of Driffield, at map reference 106/001560. Alternatively, SatNav systems
will find postcode YO25 9LH which is directly opposite the venue entrance.

Entries have been steadily filtering in with a number of top crews and
interesting cars set to take to the stages. No less than two iconic MG Metro
6R4s will be in action in the hands of Robert Lowe and Adrian Smekss although
the Japanese challenge will most likely come from the Subaru of Gavin Read and
Tim Hobson's Mitsubishi.
Chris Platt (Vauxhall Tigra) will start as favourite in the 1600cc class and
other cars to watch out for are the BMW325i of Mel Hudson, Alan Kitson's Sunbeam
Imp and the evocative Porsche 914/4 of John Sutton.
Late entries
are still available and further information and a seeded entry list will be
available at www.bdmc.org.uk where results
can be found both during the event and afterwards.
