Marcos Ambrose has experienced a day of contrasts at New Hampshire Motor Speedway in Loudon, New Hampshire today.

Ambrose drove the #59 STP Ford Fusion of JTG Racing to ninth fastest in final practice for this weekend’s Camping World RV Sales 200 in the NASCAR Nationwide Series. However, Ambrose will not make his first oval start in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series in Sunday’s Lenox Industrial Tools 301 after he failed to qualify the #21 Little Debbie Ford Fusion of Wood Brothers Racing.

After a sensational Sprint Cup debut in Sonoma, California last week, today was the first time Ambrose had driven the Wood Brothers Ford Fusion on an oval, and with just one practice session prior to qualifying, the Australian was unable to get a set-up fast enough to make the race.

Ambrose will be back on track tomorrow in the NASCAR Nationwide Series for qualifying and the 200-lap race as he continues to climb towards the top 10 in series points.

The Australian will aim to make his first Sprint Cup start on an oval on July 27 in the Allstate 400 at Indianapolis Motor Speedway driving the #47 Little Debbie Ford Fusion for JTG Racing.

“It’s really disappointing,” said Ambrose.

“I just feel bad for the Wood Brothers. I’ve had limited experience in the COT and we just didn’t roll off the truck that great and I haven’t had enough experience to really give them direction to tune on it.

“I tried as hard as I could there, but it just wasn’t to be. Unfortunately I’ve got a hero to zero story I can tell.”
