A1 Team Malaysia was delighted to learn this week that the Sepang round of the A1GP World Cup of Motorsport will host the winners of an Australia wide competition, run by a national television station in conjunction with one of the team’s rivals, A1 Team Australia. The Malaysian team is ready to welcome the winning couple, Mr and Mrs Hunter, and to show the warm hospitality for which the country is renowned, have invited these two lucky people to a traditional Malay dinner during their stay. Tim Hunter and his wife live in the country town of Goulburn in New South Wales, where they both work a perfectly normal job and live a perfectly normal life. On 20th June Tim became the winner of the Australia wide competition powered by Fox Sports to fly to Malaysia with his wife Andrea and become part of the growing Australian A1 team that will compete at the Sepang round of the Series
When we asked Tim how he felt about winning he replied quite simply with “it was a shock at first, but now the idea is just exciting.” Tim first found the competition on the internet. He and his wife were browsing when they came across the opportunity of a lifetime for any enthusiastic motorsport fan. The couple have not travelled much so we are sure their experience in Malaysia as an Australian A1 team representative with all airfares, accommodation, transfers and expenses paid for will not be one for them to forget anytime soon. For the couple the trip will not only be the racing but as Tim said, “the cultural aspect will definitely be an experience, just so different.” Patrick Wedes, the A1GP media and PR manager for the Australian team will accompany Tim and his wife to Malaysia. Patrick said “It will be the closest you can get before you can actually step into a cockpit of a race car itself, a great opportunity to interact with everyone in A1GP and the buzz of being automatically included into a professional international race team. I’m sure he will enjoy the wonderful hospitality of the Malaysian people as well. “ Jack Cunningham, Chief Executive, A1 Team Malaysia said of the A1 Team Australia and Fox Sports initiative, “We’re delighted that our fellow A1GP team and their national TV sports network selected Malaysia as the destination of choice for their competition. We look forward to welcoming Mr and Mrs Hunter to Kuala Lumpur and hope that not only will they see some great racing at Sepang, but they will also have the chance to visit many of the attractions and cultural highlights which Malaysia offers.” The Sepang round of the 2008/09 A1GP World Cup of Motorsport takes place from November 21-23 this year. The 22 nations competing in this unique series will arrive in the country earlier in the week and will put on one of the most entertaining racing events seen in Malaysia.
