Northern Ireland’s Andrew Herron is aiming to challenge for a trio of
podium finishes at Snetterton Circuit in Norfolk tomorrow, Sunday, 13th July,
during the first ever triple header race meeting in the history of the SEAT
Cupra Championship.
The 20-year-old, from Dromore in Co. Down, will begin all three races from
the second row of the grid having qualified with the fourth fastest time during
the round 11 and 12 sessions today, Saturday, 12th July.
Andrew also set the fourth best time during the round 10 qualifying session
at Croft in North Yorkshire back at the beginning of June – the race itself
unable to take place then due to torrential rain playing havoc with the raceday
timetable.
“I’m really looking forward to tomorrow’s races”, said the Brian Herron
Contracts backed sensation, “If we can fight for three podiums it’ll be a dream
result for our championship and I think we’re in a good position to make that
happen, starting all three races from the second row.”
During the first of today’s sessions, to determine the grid for round 11,
Andrew lapped with a best time of 1m 14.636 seconds (94.15mph) to secure a spot
on the second row for the first encounter. The subsequent round 12 qualifying
period saw the JHR Developments driver lap in 1m 13.492 seconds (95.61mph) to go
fourth fastest again.
Andrew added: “In the first session the track was damp but getting drier
and on my split times I was on for a pole position lap but I ended up fourth. I
should have been on the front row for round 11 really. In the second session,
the car felt really good and I ran consistently well but couldn’t quite pull a
front row lap out of the bag.
“I’m happy enough, the car’s balance felt great today and I think we can
have three good races tomorrow. It’ll be tough as Robert (Lawson), Jonathan
(Adam) and Martin (Byford) should all be very strong in race conditions. I know
what I can do though, I certainly hope to continue our recent run of
podiums.”
Round 11 of the 2008 SEAT Cupra Championship will take place at 09.00
tomorrow, Sunday, 13th July, with round 12 expected to follow at around 11.55
and the rescheduled 10th round of the season timetabled to commence at
16.55.
