Bratt Aiming For Second Podium Of Season At Croft PDF Print E-mail
Friday, 14 July 2006
Oversteer problems compromised Will Bratt’s testing pace at Croft today ahead of the weekend’s ninth and 10th rounds of the Formula Renault UK season, but the 18-year-old is still confident of success and aiming for his second podium finish of the year.

Ending today’s pair of 45-minute test sessions at the North Yorkshire venue just half a second adrift of the top of the times, Will knows there is more to come during Saturday’s two qualifying sessions ahead of the first of the weekend’s races later in the day.

The 18-year-old concluded today’s test 10th fastest on the combined timesheets thanks to a lap of 1m 18.121 seconds (98.01mph) during the afternoon session, placing him less than three 10ths of a second outside the top six and just 0.555 seconds away from the quickest time of all set by current championship leader Patrick Hogan.

The Scorpio Motorsport team will be working hard this evening to find a solution to the grip problems which were affecting Will’s Apotex Pharmaceuticals-backed car during the test, although confidence is high the top six in qualifying is still a realistic aim.

“We did have a bit of a problem with oversteer today”, explained Will, “The car wasn’t gripping as we’d have liked into the corners and especially so at the slower parts of the track such as the hairpin.

“We managed to go quicker during the afternoon session but we’ve got some work to do to make the car a bit more competitive for qualifying. It’s clear we lost quite a bit of time today because of oversteer but I’m confident we can sort things out in time for tomorrow and, in turn, qualify somewhere on the first three rows of the grid.”

Qualifying for round nine of the Formula Renault UK season is expected to start at 10.20 tomorrow, Saturday, 15th July, with round 10 qualifying to follow at 13.30. The first race of the weekend is then set to commence at 16.10 with round 10 taking place on Sunday, 16th July, at approximately 16.05.
