Will Power has finished in 11th place in the Firestone Indy 200 at Nashville Superspeedway in Lebanon, Tennessee today. The race was red flagged with 29 laps remaining as a result of rain, with Power finishing as the second car one lap down just outside the top 10.
Power had run a solid race and was poised to move forward and gain a second top 10 finish on an oval this season, but the race stoppage ended his day.
The Australian qualified in 14th for the 200-lap event in the #8 Aussie Vineyards – Team Australia Honda/Dallara/Firestone entry.
Power currently sits 13th in the 2008 IndyCar Series standings, just nine points from 10th place driver and team-mate Oriol Servia.
Next weekend Power will be one of the drivers to watch in the Honda Indy 200 at the Mid Ohio Sportscar Course in Lexington, Ohio.
WHAT THE TEAM HAD TO SAY …
Will Power: #8 Aussie Vineyards - Team Australia Honda/Dallara/Firestone
“We had a solid day today and this finish keeps the points ticking over,” said Power.
“We’ve got some really good races coming up over the next month, so we really wanted to keep the car straight and bring it home in a solid position.
“It was strange in the end with the rain, not knowing if we would get a restart, but in the end it got heavy and that was it.”
Craig Gore: Aussie Vineyards - Team Australia
“Nashville was a good, solid result for Aussie Vineyards – Team Australia,” said Gore.
“Will is now getting some good finishes on the ovals with eighth in Iowa and 11th this week in Nashville.
“We have a lot of road and street circuits coming up in the schedule now and Will is less than ten points outside of the top 10 in the points.
“Will and the crew will be pushing to get a win over the next month as the series goes to places such as Mid-Ohio, Edmonton, Sonoma and Detroit.”
