While the V8 Supercars drivers roar around the Queensland Raceway this
weekend, many of the country’s top young drivers will be battling it
out on the nearby Ipswich Kart Raceway at the 2008 Yamaha All Japan
Qualifier.
The Yamaha All Japan Qualifier is a one-day karting event to be held at
the Ipswich venue with the final scheduled for early Saturday evening,
allowing race fans to watch the opening V8 race before heading across
the round for some scintillating kart racing action.
With a trip to Japan to contest the 32nd Annual Toyota All Japan
Kart Championships being awarded to the winner of the Clubman Light and
Yamaha TAG categories the action is sure to be intense. These prizes
are valued at over $20,000 each and incorporate all airfares,
accommodation, transfers and supply of all of the equipment necessary
to compete in Kyoto, Japan on October 2-5.
“Over the years the All Japan Qualifier has seen some of
Australia’s top drivers provided with the opportunity to compete
overseas to represent Australia and this year is no different,” said
Yamaha Australia’s Adam Wolfenden.
“Some of the drivers who have won this event in the past include
Paul Laskazeski – who is currently leading the Australian Formula Ford
Championship – multiple-time Australian Champions Matt Wall and David
Sera along with Ryan Sanderson.
“Last year also saw the inclusion of an additional winner for those
drivers who are newer to the sport in the Yamaha TAG category.”
Throughout the event all competitors will be powered by a Yamaha
100cc kart engine with entrants contesting in the Junior Clubman,
Clubman Light, Heavy, Super Heavy, Over 40’s and the Yamaha TAG
categories.
Entrants in all classes will go into the draw for a range of prizes
including VIP passes to Sunday’s V8 action, pit tours and general
admission passes.
Admission is free for spectators. Racing begins at 2:00pm with the finals scheduled to start at 6:30pm.
