Bright ready to attack at Queensland raceway PDF Print E-mail
Monday, 14 July 2008
Fujitsu Racing’s Jason Bright heads to the seventh round of the V8 Supercar Championship Series, the City of Ipswich 400, at Queensland Raceway optimistic of a top-10 result. Bright had an up and down weekend at the recent round at Darwin’s Hidden Valley, but he feels that the Queensland Raceway layout should better suit the Fujitsu Racing Falcon.

“In Darwin we started the weekend very strongly in practice, but didn’t get a clear lap in qualifying,” said Bright.

“We started back in the pack and got banged around a bit.

“You need a good balance in the racecar for Queensland Raceway. We feel this is one of our real strengths with our package. Straight-line speed is not the key to being on the pace at the Willowbank track.

“Looking at our race pace we have been setting lap times in the top-10. Now we need to qualify in the top group and move up the order from there.

“Queensland Raceway represents the halfway mark of the season and it would be good to get some momentum as we head towards the big races including Bathurst.”

Fujitsu Racing Chief Engineer Geoff Slater is confident of a good result despite the challenges that Queensland Raceway does provide.

“They do call the track the ‘paperclip’ for a very good reason,” said Slater.

“There are six corners and just two are left-handers.

“This means the left-hand side tyres do take a big load. So we have to ensure our balance is strong as you can suffer from excessive tyre wear.

“We have only had a handful of days with the car back in the workshop since Darwin, but all our preparation has gone to plan and we feel confident going to Queensland Raceway.”

Teams hit the track for practice on Friday ahead of Saturday’s elimination-styled qualifying format. The opening 38-lap race is Saturday afternoon, with another two 38-lap races on Sunday.
