Another top ten for Clark at Snetterton rounds of Formula Renault UK
Monday, 14 July 2008
Kieren
Clark posted his fourth top ten finish at Snetterton this weekend, but missed
out on capitalizing from his best qualifying position of the season, when a
broken front wing from the punishing track conditions caused handling problems.
Rounds
12 and 13 of the highly competitive Formula Renault UK series were run at the
Snetterton British Touring Car Championship this weekend, with an extra round
being left over from the rain soaked Croft event at the beginning of June. This
weekend, KC was chosen to run with the ITV4 on board camera, so watch out for
that on the Motorsport UK shows.
Having
already qualified at Croft, for the postponed round 10, a 15th
position on the grid was a tough one. A lightening start saw KC climb 2 places,
but loose out to his team mate Josh Scott, who made an even more impressive
get-away. An accident on the first corner brought out the safety car for the
next 2 laps, then both Apotex Scorpio cars set about pressurising Yamamoto,
with Josh and Kieren passing by either side of the CR Scuderia car on the entry
to the Esses, in a stunning pincer movement. Josh was later served with a drive
through penalty for a jumped start, putting him out of the fight. Capatilsing
on a last lap error from the pair in front, KC finished a creditable10th. “It was a great move we did on Ryuji
(Yamamoto) passing either side of him” commented KC, “once we passed him, he
was really pushing, but I managed to pull a gap to get the pressure off so I
could concentrate on chasing Adriano (Buzaid). I couldn’t make any challenge,
but made up a place as he and Kris (Loane) had a scrap on the last lap. The car
was spot on though.”
The
Sunday morning round saw Kieren start in his best grid position this season of
11th, only missing out on being inside the top ten by less than 2
tenths. However, not making the best start, saw KC dropping down the order, and
seemingly unable to make any headway forward, finishing 15th. After
the race, the front wing was found to have cracked under the rough Snetterton
curbs and was providing little in the way of downforce on one side.
Round
13, run on Sunday afternoon, saw KC in 15th , with the grid being so
close, only a tenth away from a top ten start. After a hard race with some
challenges to move forward resulting in him frustratingly loosing places, then
having to make them back, finish where he started in 15th.
The
live on board camera action is usually edited into the ITV4 Motorsport UK
series of highlights from the weekends races, so look out for a view from KC’s
car! The
next Rounds of the Formula Renault UK championship are at Cheshire’s Oulton
Park on July 26th and 27th with live TV coverage on ITV4
on Sunday afternoon, alongside the British Touring Cars.
