Brands Hatch Grand Prix Circuit in Kent was the venue yesterday, Sunday,
13th July, for the fourth podium finish of Jeremy Metcalfe’s debut season in the
Avon Tyres British GT Championship – the Hampshire racer ending round 12 in
second place.
Although taking the chequered flag in third position after some great
driving by Jeremy and his team-mate Luke Hines during the one hour race – the
duo starting 12th on the grid – a penalty applied to second placed finishers
Nigel Redwood and Nick Foster lifted Jeremy into the runner-up spot at the end
of the 37 lap outing.
Very happy to take another second place finish, the 20-year-old CR Scuderia
driver is now focused on fighting for race victories during the last two rounds
of the season as he aims to end his debut year of sportscar competition in the
runner-up spot.
Unfortunately for Jeremy, the headline GT3 Class title has already been
wrapped up by Brookspeed Trimite pairing James Gornall and Jon Barnes.
Nonetheless, the Fleet racer will be aiming to conclude the championship on a
high and will be gunning for wins at Silverstone in mid-August and Donington
Park during the season finale in October.
“Obviously, it’s great to be on the podium again but it’s been a bit of a
frustrating weekend as we’d had a problem with the car which we couldn’t quite
get to the bottom of”, said Jeremy at the end of round 12, “It did hamper our
chances this weekend but I’m confident for the final two races we’ll be strong
and able to challenge for wins.”
Currently equal fifth in the GT3 Class driver standings, the British Racing
Drivers’ Club (BRDC) Rising Star is just six points shy of the runner-up spot
which is currently held by fellow CRS driver Michael Cullen.
Jeremy now has a five week break in race action before the 2008 Avon Tyres
British GT Championship season resumes at Silverstone in Northamptonshire. The
event will feature the first two-hour race of the campaign with qualifying
taking place on Saturday, 16th August, and round 13 being held on Sunday, 17th
August.
