Midnight Oil Burned by Wilson Brothers Racing PDF Print E-mail
Thursday, 17 July 2008

The fact that Wilson Brothers Racing will have a pair of BA Falcon XR8 utes on the grid this weekend can only be considered a miracle.

The team’s number 45 entry, with Rhys Hansford behind the wheel with the support of QR Hire Karts, is practically a new car after severe damage incurred at the previous round at Hidden Valley.

Paul Williams, who has driven the car at the previous two rounds had shown strong form and some quick lap times, was the unfortunate victim of a first corner melee in the first of three races, which hindered the car all weekend long.

With an incredibly short turn around between rounds, the WBR team has been hard at work completely rebuilding the engine, gearbox and drive shafts, as well as replacing all of the body work from front to rear.

Team principal Cam Wilson has been right behind his troops as they weave a magic wand over the ute.

“It has been a major effort by all of the boys, especially with the engine, as the last and most important parts only arrived at 3pm on Wednesday, so there has been an all night effort put in to get the car ready,” said Wilson.

Hansford will be pumped for the round, having competed earlier in the season at the Clipsal 500 and Eastern Creek.

Hansford will once again be joined by the Coopers Faclon of Jack Elsegood.

Elsegood is looking forward to a strong result, after setting chart topping practice times at Hidden Valley, before an electrical gremlin struck, slowing his progress throughout the weekend.

With those dramas well behind him, Elsegood will be looking at getting back onto the podium.

Cam Wilson will himself be a busy boy over the course of the weekend, running a Race Car Rentals Mazda MX5 in the support races.

Wilson said that while his stock standard production car won’t be an outright threat, it should provide plenty of entertainment.
