Lebanese A1GP driver Jimmy Auby
completed two successful days testing at the Valencia circuit last week in
preparation for the next round of the 2008 FIAT Spanish Formula 3
Championship. The 21 year-old is in
his first season in Formula 3 and throughout the two day test was posting
competitive times against more experienced drivers.
Despite running on old tyres, which
had completed several laps, Jimmy ended the session one tenth off Natacha
Gachnang and 0.8 tenths adrift of Nil Montserrat, currently lying third in the
points standings.
Day two again was split into two
sessions, the morning session held over four hours. The team elected to start on
old tyres again and with the same differential as on the opening day to
establish the correct set-up for the race meeting to be held later this
month.
When they switched to new tyres, Jimmy
immediately gained a second, just 0.5 tenths off the fastest car in class and
0.6 tenths off the fastest overall.
During the afternoon session, the team
tried several combinations of rubber and differentials to establish what would
be the correct choice. Overall in the session, Jimmy wound up fastest of the
class runners leaving him confident ahead of the races which take place over the
weekend of 27/28 July.
“I feel the test went very well as we
managed to get a really good set-up with both diffs. We were also very competitive being
consistently quicker than the opposition on old and new tyres. I am now really
looking forward to the next race.”
