trimble battles hard at Queensland Raceway PDF Print E-mail
Sunday, 20 July 2008
Global Jet driver Michael Trimble endured a tough time during round four of the 2008 Fujitsu V8 Supercar Series at Queensland Raceway near Ipswich this weekend. After qualifying just outside the top ten yesterday, the 2007 Carrera Cup Rookie of the Year made some moves towards the front of the pack during the opening few laps of race one.

Following an impressive passing maneuver on Tim Slade through turn three of the 3.1km Queensland Raceway Trimble was caught in the middle of a three-wide battle entering turn four. Unfortunately for the 23-year-old the Global Jet Commodore was sent into a spin following contact from Slade, dropping him to 26th position.

Throughout the remainder of the race Trimble fought hard before crossing the line in 17th position.

During today’s pair of 14-lap races Trimble fought hard to regain the ground he lost in the opening encounter and crossed the line in 11th in race two and tenth in the final journey.

His tenth placing in race three was courtesy of an impressive start and a pair of striking passing maneuvers late in the race.

Following four of seven rounds in the series Trimble is now fifth in the championship standings. The weekend’s round was won by Dean Canto ahead of Steve Owen and Grant Denyer.

The next round in the series will be held at the Winton Motor Raceway in Victoria on August 1-3.

WHAT HE HAD TO SAY …

Michael Trimble – Driver of the #64 Global Jet Commodore

“We struggled to find a good set up all weekend until the final race where we appeared to get on top of things,” said Trimble.

“When you don’t qualify well here it makes for a very tough weekend as it is not an easy to pass around.

“I made a good start in the final race but I couldn’t take full advantage of it because I was a fairly deep in the pack.

“Our focus will now turn towards Winton where I’ll be aiming to climb back up the championship standings.”
