Chalenging weekend for Assailit in Queensland PDF Print E-mail
Sunday, 20 July 2008
Fujitsu Racing’s Damian Assaillit has had an up and down weekend at the fourth round of the Fujitsu V8 Series at Queensland Raceway.

Assaillit was 10th quickest in practice, but couldn’t carry that over to qualifying starting from 14th position. The Sunshine Coast racer was spun by Mark McNally, before recovering to finish 18th.

The 18-year-old didn’t even complete the opening lap in race #2 when his steering was damaged after locking wheels with another driver. He then completed the weekend with a solid drive to finish 18th in the final race to be classified 22nd for the weekend

“If we kept our nose clean in the opening two races I’m sure we would have been inside the top-10,” said Assaillit.

“Our qualifying should have been better, and we would have been out of the mess in the races.

“It’s tough when you have a fast racecar, but can’t show its true potential.

“Importantly we are getting better and we are keen to show that at the next round at Winton.”

Team Principal of Race Image Motorsport David McMahon was upbeat despite the result.

“Damian and the whole team were better than the result showed,” said McMahon.

“We made some technical changes this weekend which have really improved the car.

“This series is pretty tough and you have to have a fast car as well as some luck some times.

“We now have the fast car, give us just a slice of luck and we’ll be up there.”

The Fujitsu Racing Team will have the opportunity to prove their form in two weeks at Winton Motor Raceway in Victoria.
