Menasheh Idafar bounced back in perfect style from his disappointment of
two non-scoring races at Croft on Sunday to produce a stunning test performance
at Snetterton Circuit in Norfolk yesterday, Tuesday, 22nd July – the venue for
the upcoming eighth and ninth rounds of the Formula Renault BARC Championship
season.
The 17-year-old, who competes for Derbyshire based Hillspeed, took part in
a general test session at Snetterton alongside regular team-mate Ahmad Al
Harthy. They were also joined by Menasheh’s younger brother, Ezra Idafar, who
made his maiden outing in a Formula Renault BARC car.
Immediately, Menasheh produced the sort of impressive performance which is
quickly becoming a hallmark. Lapping with a best time of 1m 08.077 seconds, the
British-born Bahraini just missed out on dipping into the 1m 07 second bracket
by a mere fraction and his excellent pace was more than a match for the handful
of other BARC drivers present.
Quickest for the majority of the day, Menasheh’s time was bettered later in
the afternoon but the car in question is believed not to have been running in
full Formula Renault BARC race specification so any comparison between the two
would be erroneous.
Speaking at the conclusion of the test, Hillspeed team principal Richard
Ollerenshaw said: “Menasheh was on very good form today, we ran using old brake
pads and discs so his time of 1m 08 seconds was impressive. It was the perfect
way to bounce back from Croft, lapping 0.15 seconds quicker than he has before
at Snetterton. We continue to raise the bar each time we go out.”
Menasheh will return to action tomorrow, Thursday, 24th July,
at Donington Park National Circuit where he will be aiming to rack up
more mileage in the build up to the next race meeting on the 2008 Formula
Renault BARC calendar – a visit to Snetterton on Saturday, 9th August.
Hillspeed driver coach, and British Racing Drivers’ Club (BRDC) Rising
Star, Matt Shawyer added: “Menasheh was in top form today, the quickest he’s
ever been at Snetterton and we’re confident he’ll be just as strong at Donington
this Thursday. It was another terrific job.”
