Darren Windus and Jon Mortimer have set their sights on another podium
finish as they head to the fourth round of the Australian Rally
Championship, the Sprint Auto Parts Rally South Australia.
The West Australians took third overall at the second round in
Canberra in a Subaru WRX. Now aboard the Britek Motorsport prepared
Japanese Wholesale Spares sponsored Ford Fiesta Super 2000 rally car,
Windus believes the fast and flowing Barossa Valley stages will suit
the nimble the Fiesta.
“South Australia is a terrific rally and we are sure it will show the strengths of the Fiesta,” said Windus.
“We really want to get back towards the top-three in the
championship. That’s a big call with the factory supported Toyotas and
a strong contingent of turbo-charged Subarus and Mitsubishis.
“We were fast, but had some issues at the recent round in
Queensland. This has not dented my enthusiasm and we will have a big go
on the shire roads that dominate the event.
“Although this is just the second event I have driven this year in the car; I have never felt more comfortable in a rally car.
“The Adelaide Hills in the middle of winter can throw up all sorts
of conditions. Importantly the car and both Jon and I are prepared for
whatever we encounter.”
Prepared and run by Britek Motorsport, the Fiesta is the only Super
2000 Ford running in rally competition anywhere in the world.
Headed by Britek Motorsport Manager Marcus Clarke and Head Rally
Technician Stephen White, the Fiesta has been given a full look-over
since Queensland.
“All is good heading to South Australia,” said Clarke.
“We have concentrated on reliability as we have been very happy with the pace of the car.
“The rally itself is not too hard on equipment – so we can’t rely on others falling by the wayside.
“Darren is getting quicker every time he jumps aboard and we are sure he will show in SA.”
The Sprint Auto Parts Rally South Australia gets underway at
Angaston Oval on Friday night for the twin Superstages. Action
continues on Saturday and Sunday including 20 times stages covering
just under 218 competitive kilometres.
