BUREAU'S LATEST DECISIONS
The
FIA Touring Car Bureau have taken two decisions that will take effect
from this weekend's event in Brands Hatch and until further notice.
HONDA -
The minimum weight of the Honda Accord Euro R cars will be reduced by a
further 10 kilos in addition to the 20-kg reduction resulting from the
Bureau's decision of May 28th, 2008.
DIESEL -
All diesel cars must have the catalytic converter and the exhaust gas
purification system in perfect working order, and therefore they must
not produce visible black smoke at any time during the event.
The
Bureau also clarified that, in cases of decisions resulting in a
reduction of the cars' minimum weight, the weight may be subtracted
from the total weight of the car including the success ballast.
WIECHERS-SPORT TO SKIP BRANDS HATCH
The
Wiechers-Sport team, who usually run Olivier Tielemans' BMW 320si, have
been forced to skip this weekend's WTCC British meeting in Brands Hatch.
"The
driver's main sponsor did not meet payments as was provided by the
agreement. Therefore we have been obliged to stop and await until the
problem is settled. We are confident
that this will happen soon, so that we may rejoin for our home race
meeting in Oschersleben at the end of August," team manager Dominik Greiner declared.
ROMANOV SIDELINED BY VISA PROBLEMS
Regular Liqui-Moly Team Engstler's driver Andrey Romanov will be forced to miss the WTCC event in Brands Hatch.
The
Russian, who is currently lying in fifth position in the Independents'
Trophy, failed to obtain in due time the visa required to travel to the
United Kingdom.
Romanov
will rejoin the championship at Oschersleben where he has won a round
of the German Procar Championship earlier this season.
PRIAULX LAUNCHES AUTOBIOGRAPHY
Triple
Touring Car World Champion Andy Priaulx has launched his autobiographic
book yesterday in London, at BMW's Mayfair showroom.
The
book, published by HarperCollins, is the inspiring story of Andy
Priaulx, an extremely determined man who battled against the odds and
performed the role of underdog throughout his entire career. With
refreshing honesty, Andy tells of how he fought tooth-and-nail for
every sponsor, every car and every penny to achieve his dream of one
day becoming a world champion.
The autobiography of Andy Priaulx is available now at Amazon.co.uk.
HUFF AIMS FOR HOME VICTORY
Robert Huff will contest his 100th
race as a professional touring car driver on Sunday in the first of two
FIA World Touring Car Championship races at Brands Hatch. The 28-year old driver from Cambridgeshire is currently 5th
in the WTCC Drivers' standings, after a series of good results which
include victory at Valencia - his third WTCC race win of his career
with Chevrolet.
"The
first of the two WTCC races will be my hundredth touring car start, so
it would be a delight to celebrate that with a win, especially since
Brands Hatch is also the track where I scored my very first touring car
victory in 2004," said Rob. "Realistically,
of course, it will be very difficult to win with the kilos I'm
carrying, as Brands is one of those tracks where it hurts to run heavy.
So if I can bag another eight or nine points it will have been a very
good weekend for me. But obviously racing at home in front of fans and
family is always special, so I'm going to put on a good show."
