Ginetta Junior Championship race winner Daniel Lloyd posted the third
fastest time in official pre-event testing at Oulton Park Island Circuit this
afternoon, Friday, 25th July, ahead of the weekend’s 15th and 16th rounds of the
2008 season.
The Huddersfield driver, who heads into the latest instalment of the
Ginetta Junior campaign third overall in the driver standings, is aiming to
secure a brace of podium finishes over the weekend at the picturesque Cheshire
venue, very much a home track for Daniel situated, as it is, just 60 miles from
his home in Scammonden.
Leading the way by a full second at the mid-way point of today’s test,
Daniel ended the session third fastest with a best time of 1m 48.086 seconds
(74.14mph) having run very competitively throughout the hour.
Although his Tockwith Motorsport run car did have some issues with grip
today, the 16-year-old British Racing Drivers’ Club (BRDC) Stars of Tomorrow
Scholarship Winner is sure his team will improve things in time for Saturday’s
15-minute qualifying period.
Speaking at the conclusion of this afternoon’s 60-minute track session,
Daniel said: “We had good speed for the majority of the practice but we did have
one or two problems with the car sliding around a bit too much. Obviously, the
team will work on that and hopefully everything will be fine for qualifying
tomorrow and the races.
“We changed tyres about halfway through the session and went a second
quicker than anyone straight away. The car was very good for the first three
laps after the tyre change but then it started to slide again. We need to make
it better but we’ve prepared pretty well for the weekend. If I can qualify
inside the top four, I’ll be happy with that.”
Qualifying for rounds 15 and 16 of the 2008 Ginetta Junior Championship is
timetabled to take place at 12.30 tomorrow, Saturday, 26th July, with the first
race of the weekend set to commence at around 17.25. Round 16 will follow on
Sunday, 27th July, and will take place at approximately 16.20.
Provisional 2008 Ginetta Junior Championship Positions (after
Rd14):
1st Dino Zamparelli, 395pts; 2nd Thomas Carnaby, 342pts;
3rd Daniel Lloyd, 261pts
