Nottinghamshire Formula Renault UK entrant Manor Competition has high hopes
of challenging for a brace of podium results at the least tomorrow, Sunday, 27th
July, during the 15th and 16th rounds of the campaign at Oulton Park Island
Circuit in Cheshire.
Alexander Sims, who is currently second overall in the championship
standings on overall scores, qualified third on the grid for both of tomorrow’s
15-lap races at the 2.23 mile venue following a very competitive run during
today’s two, sun kissed sessions.
Lapping with a best time of 1m 18.866 seconds (101.58mph) during round 15
qualifying, just six 100ths of a second outside the pole position time, the
20-year-old Peterborough driver repeated his third placed finish during the
round 16 session with a lap of 1m 19.164 seconds (101.22mph).
For round 15, Northern Ireland’s Kris Loane will line up sixth on the grid
after setting a best time of 1m 19.113 seconds (101.29mph). However, the
20-year-old from Kesh in Co. Fermanagh will have his work cut out in round 16
after his lap of 1m 19.741 seconds (100.49mph) was only good enough for 14th
position on the grid.
Henry Surtees enjoyed one of his better qualifying performances of the 2008
season, lining up as he does in 11th position for round 15 – thanks to a time of
1m 19.458 seconds (100.85mph) – and an improved eighth on the grid for round 16
courtesy of a good lap of 1m 19.590 seconds (100.68mph).
The New Ollerton team’s least experienced single-seater racer, Tom Armour,
qualified 18th on the grid for round 15 with a lap of 1m 20.352 seconds
(99.73mph) and 19th quickest during round 16 qualifying with a time of 1m 20.558
seconds (99.47mph).
Manor Competition team owner Tony Shaw said: “If it’s as hot tomorrow as it
was today during qualifying the races will be very tough but we’re looking
forward to them. We stand a good chance of celebrating a couple of podiums at
the end of the weekend, hopefully that’ll be the case.”

around 12.00 tomorrow, Sunday, 27th July, with round 16 expected to follow at
16.50.
