FAULTLESS MAIDEN VICTORY FOR LANCASTER IN GERMANY PDF Print E-mail
Monday, 28 July 2008
Rising British star Jon Lancaster drove a faultless race to take his maiden win in the Formula 3 Euroseries at the Nürburgring today.  The 19 year-old F3 rookie started from the front row and got the jump on pole-sitter Niall Breen at the first corner, to take a controlled lights-to-flag victory.

Despite coming under intense pressure for the duration of the 28-lap race, the jonnurb1.jpgBRDC Superstar from Leeds was able to keep the Irishman at bay.  Even a safety car period on lap 13 when Rodolfo Gonzalez went off at the chicane failed to unsettle him and Jon kept his head to take a well-deserved first F3 victory in only his second season out of karts.

At the flag, the Multiflight-backed driver was understandably delighted with the result: “Fantastic! To finally score my maiden win in the Formula 3 Euroseries is a great feeling! I have been fast here around the Nürburgring all weekend and have been working hard for this success during the past weeks.

“It’s been a long time coming really so it’s quite a relief to finally get that first win under my belt. It’s taken a great weight off my shoulders and now we can look forward to hopefully repeating that at Brands. It was a very tough race to be honest.  Niall was pushing hard all the way through and towards the end the tyres started to wear a bit but I was still able to keep up the pace. It’s great to be able to repay the faith shown in me by Multiflight and all my other sponsors and supporters too.”

Jon was also quick to praise the efforts of the ART Grand Prix team, the outfit that steered Lewis Hamilton to title victory, “The ART Grand Prix team has worked hard all season to give me a great car and the opportunity for victory.  I’m delighted to finally be able to give them the result they deserve, which has been on the cards now for a few races.  I’d like to say a very big thank to you to Fred and all the team for all their support.”

Jon’s results in rounds 11 and 12 of the 20-round series, has moved up to eighth overall in the championship standings ahead of his ‘home’ race, at Brands Hatch at the end of the month.
