| MARSHALL LOOKING FORWARD TO THE COOL TO HEAT UP |

IRWIN Racing’s Marcus Marshall is confident that a return to cold
weather racing at Winton Motor Raceway in central Victoria will be the
catalyst to heat-up his V8 Supercar Championship Series Campaign.
Winton is
the test track for the IRWIN Racing team, but it’s more about getting
onto a cold track that has Marshall optimistic of a strong showing.
“Our car really reacts well to the colder conditions,” said Marshall. “Like in Darwin where we were guaranteed of hot dry weather; Winton in the first weekend in August is sure to be cold! “Winton is not all about outright speed and we have a good handling car to cope with the twisty layout. “Being our test track means I’m familiar with what the car likes at the circuit. That’s something I don’t get to experience anywhere else during 2008. “This rounds-out three events in six weeks and it’s really important that we get a strong result heading to Phillip Island and Bathurst.” IRWIN Racing Engineer Marcus Clarke believes running at Winton couldn’t have come at a better time. “After some tough races it’s really good to be heading to a track we all know really well,” said Clarke. “We are not alone in using Winton as a test track, but with our edge in the handling department we are confident we can really show our potential on the tight layout. “One of the key things with the IRWIN Falcon is that it takes care of its tyres. This means that we can pick and choose our pit strategy and really run our own race.” Marshall and the IRWIN Racing Falcon take to the track for extended practice on Friday ahead of the elimination styled qualifying on Saturday morning. That afternoon includes the opening 40-lap race, with Sunday’s schedule featuring another two 40-lap races. 2008 V8 Supercar Championship Series Round 8 - Winton Motor Raceway, Victoria Championship Standings after 7 of 14 rounds 1. Check local guides ABOUT THE TRACK Situated in Central Victoria, near Benalla, the Winton Motor Raceway hosted its first race meeting in 1961. Winton was the venue for the first race meetings of legend drivers such as Peter Brock, Alan Jones and Allan Moffat. In 1985 the venue hosted its first ever round of the Group A Shell Australian Touring Car Championship, which was also the first Touring Car round to be televised by the Seven Network.
