Marshal shows pace at Winton PDF Print E-mail
Sunday, 03 August 2008
IRWIN Racing’s Marcus Marshall has enjoyed a solid weekend at the eighth round of the V8 Supercar Championship Series at Victoria’s Winton Motor Raceway. In an excellent drive in the second of three races, Marshall went from 26th starting to position to finish 17th.

Marshall had a top-20 overall result taken away in the final race of the weekend when he was spun-off the track on the opening lap. In the process he lost a lap and finished 23rd to be classified 24th overall.

“The second race was clearly the highlight for us this weekend,” said Marshall.

“We really kept our nose clean in that race. The car was really good to drive and we were able to hold our own.

“That was the goal in the final race as well. But when you get hit from behind there’s not too much you can say about that.

“We did make some gains this weekend. We ran the sequential gearbox for the first time. We need to make some changes inside the car to make it easier to use, but that’s all achievable going to the long distance races.

“I’m really looking forward to Phillip Island and Bathurst. I really enjoy both tracks and have always gone well on both tracks. With the IRWIN Team behind both me and co-driver Matt Halliday sharing the car, we can feel very confident of an excellent result.”

IRWIN Racing Engineer Marcus Clarke was satisfied with the weekend and is looking forward to the Phillip Island and Bathurst challenge.

“We didn’t finish any of the three races in Queensland, so this has been a good comeback,” said Clarke.

“We had good pace, but the good news is that there is more to come.

“The second race was a great reward for everyone and it would have been nice to get something similar in the final race, but that’s racing sometimes.

“Phillip Island and Bathurst has us really excited. Marcus and Matt have plenty of experience of that type of racing and we feel our package will be far better suited to the long-distance formats.”

The L & H 500 at Phillip Island will be held on September 12-14.
