Consistent run for Assaillit at Winton PDF Print E-mail
Sunday, 03 August 2008
Fujitsu Racing’s Damian Assaillit has finished just outside the top-10 at the fifth round of the Fujitsu V8 Series at Winton Motor Raceway in Central Victoria. The 18-year-old was on target to finish inside the top-10, but a punctured tyre just 400 metres from the finish dropped him from ninth to 12th in the second of three races.

In fact the Sunshine Coast racer took 12th place in each of the three races.

“It was pleasing to finish all three races after a torrid time at the previous round at Queensland Raceway,” said Assaillit.

“This weekend was quite tricky with wet weather in practice, but we were quite pacey in the races.

“The puncture was extremely disappointing as it was so close to the end.

“The next time I get aboard the car will be Bathurst which is clearly the highlight of the year. I’m sure we can really look forward to a strong result at Mount Panorama.”

Fujitsu Racing Team Principal David McMahon from Race Image Motorsport summed-up the weekend.

“We had the pace, but not quite the luck for a top-10,” said McMahon.

“The puncture was just one of those things. However, Damian did put in an excellent drive in that race.

“The series is very tough, but with Bathurst coming up in October we are confident of our best performance of the year at Mount Panorama.”

The Fujitsu Series races at Phillip Island will be held on 9-11 October.
