POWER PRIMED FOR KENTUCKY DERBY PDF Print E-mail
Wednesday, 13 August 2008
Aussie Vineyards – Team Australia driver Will Power is ready and eager for the Meijer Indy 300 at Kentucky Speedway in Sparta, Kentucky this weekend.

In what has been an extremely hectic season for Power and the Aussie Vineyards crew due to the last-minute reunification of the IndyCar Series and Champ Car World Series, Power has been behind the eight-ball when it comes to oval racing. But entering Kentucky Power has not only had a rare weekend off in the lead-up to the 14th race in this year’s schedule, the 27-year-old from Toowoomba in Queensland will enter the event with the knowledge of a test day under his belt when KV Racing Technology completed one day of running on the 1.5-mile oval.

Power sits 11th in the series standings but has shown speed that has been the match of the front-runners on road and street courses. Luck, however, has not been with Power of late, with electrical problems in Watkins Glen and a broken suspension bolt in Edmonton denying Power two top five finishes.

With four points scoring races remaining in the 2009 IndyCar Series – two on ovals, one road course and one street circuit – Power is keen to put that bad luck behind him and translate his car speed into top five finishes, with the aim of not only vaulting into the top five in the standings but also chasing down Hideki Mutoh for the lead in the Bombardier Rookie of the Year standings.

WHAT THE TEAM HAD TO SAY …

Will Power: #8 Aussie Vineyards - Team Australia Honda/Dallara/Firestone

“It was really nice to get a test day at Kentucky Speedway,” said Power.

“It was an opportunity to try new things with the KVRT Aussie Vineyards car.

“I think it was a good test, so I am confident we can run in the top 10 this weekend and hopefully move into the top-10 in the standings.”

Craig Gore: Aussie Vineyards - Team Australia

“We are now entering the final four points scoring races so the entire Aussie Vineyards – Team Australia crew is focused on performing at our best,” said Gore.

“Will is keen to score maximum points on the two remaining ovals and I think he’s certainly capable of strong top 10 results this weekend in Kentucky and on the oval in Chicagoland.

“We are not far out of the top 10 in the standings, so that is a big goal of ours over the next five weeks.”
