POWER AIMS FOR FIRST INDYCAR WIN IN WINE COUNTRY PDF Print E-mail
Saturday, 23 August 2008
Aussie Vineyards – Team Australia driver can think of no better place to grab his first official IndyCar Series victory that in a region famous for its vineyards at Infineon Raceway in Sonoma, California this weekend.
ower won the Champ Car finale in April at Long Beach, also in California, an event that counted towards 2008 IndyCar Series points. The Australian is still chasing his first official IndyCar win and can think of no better place than the road course in the rolling hills of Sonoma, a region known as producing US wines.

But it will be Au wine from Australia that will be the drop of choice should Power clinch his first win, as the 27-year-old focuses on climbing back into the top 10 in the series standings after a recent spate of poor luck.

Power has proven to be one of the drivers to watch on road and street courses this season and with two of the last three points scoring events of the season on circuits that turn both left and right, Power is looking to bring the #8 Aussie Vineyards – Team Australia Dallara/Honda/Firestone home on the podium in the next two races, both here in Sonoma and next weekend in Detroit, Michigan.

WHAT THE TEAM HAD TO SAY …

Will Power: #8 Aussie Vineyards - Team Australia Honda/Dallara/Firestone

“It would be great to get our first IndyCar win right in the middle of a famous wine region like Sonoma,” said Power.

“Aussie Vineyards is a top class drop and we are a top class team, so I hope to do Au wine proud this weekend.

“There are three races to go and we are really keen to finish the year in the top 10.

“These final three point scoring races are all on different types of circuit, and when it comes to road and street circuits we know the Aussie Vineyards car is strong.

“In Sonoma this weekend and also in Detroit our team is really keen to get our first Indycar Series victory.

“We had a really productive test last week here at Infineon Raceway, so we can go into practice and qualifying with a good set-up.

“I think we have got what it takes to be on the podium this weekend if luck goes our way.”

Craig Gore: Aussie Vineyards - Team Australia

“It would be great for Will to put the Aussie Vineyards car in Victory Lane right in the middle of Californian wine country,” said Gore.

“Will has had the speed but not the luck lately. I’m sure that will turn around. These next two races should be strong events for us so we are all looking forward to the last part of the season.

“Will and the Aussie Vineyards crew had a productive test at Infineon recently so we are all confident heading into the weekend.”
