Will Bratt is confident he will have the pace to qualify strongly ahead of
Sunday’s ninth round of the FIAT Spanish Formula 3 Championship at Valencia
Street Circuit after posting the fifth fastest time during pre-event practice
this afternoon, Friday, 22nd August.
Racing this weekend in support of the FIA Formula One World Championship’s
European Grand Prix at Spain’s awesome new venue, the Banbury-based 20-year-old
lapped the track during today’s F3 test session with a time of 2m 05.4
seconds.
On course to lap much quicker on his final run, the EmiliodeVillota.com
Motorsport racer had to overtake slower traffic and was also baulked at one
stage which cost him vital 10ths of a second. Bearing that in mind, concluding
the 30-minute session just half a second shy of the best time has given Will a
positive start to the most important weekend of his career.
“I’m reasonably happy with our performance today”, commented Will, “I was
on a quicker lap but had to pass other cars and also got blocked a little so to
end the session inside the top five isn’t bad at all. We’re not 100 per cent
happy with the set-up yet but I’m confident everything will be how we want it
for qualifying tomorrow morning.
“The main thing today is we came through the practice session without any
problems, the time was less critical really but we’re certainly in good shape to
challenge tomorrow for a top grid slot. We can definitely do better but we’re
certainly on the right path.”
Will, of course, actually holds the Formula 3 lap record at Valencia Street
Circuit having produced a superb time of 2m 04.788s seconds (156.249km/h) during
round seven of the Spanish F3 season at the end of July. Therefore, he remains
confident he will be able to find much more time from his car as the weekend
progresses.
Qualifying for the European Grand Prix supporting ninth round of the 2008
FIAT Spanish Formula 3 Championship is timetabled to take place at 09.30 (local
time) tomorrow morning, Saturday, 23rd August. The race itself, which will be
contested over 10 laps or to a maximum duration of 25 minutes, will begin at
08.30 on Sunday morning, 24th August.
