British-born Bahraini Menasheh Idafar continued his adaptation to the
demands of a Formula Renault UK car at Snetterton Circuit in Norfolk yesterday,
Wednesday, 27th August, during a general test outing with Derbyshire team
Hillspeed.
The 17-year-old, a regular in the Formula Renault BARC series with the
Hathersage based squad, performed very well indeed at the wheel of a current
specification Formula Renault UK car and produced a best lap of 1m 06.3
seconds.
Lapping comfortably in the low 1m 06 second bracket for the majority of the
test, the Gulfol, Gulf Computer Services and Ortolan backed racer was just a
second off the times managed by the Formula Renault UK Championship regulars
when they tested at Snetterton recently – an impressive effort during only his
third ever run in an FRUK car.
“It’s been another good test, I really enjoyed it”, said Menasheh, “The car
felt great and although there were quite a few other types of car on the circuit
we still managed to consistently lap well. I’ve had three runs now in a UK car
and I’ve really enjoyed them all, I think we’ve shown we’re very
competitive.”
Track conditions at Snetterton yesterday weren’t ideal for fast times with
a strong head wind blowing down the Senna Straight. Therefore, to conclude the
day just a second shy of front-running Formula Renault UK pace underlined
Menasheh’s continued progress.
Hillspeed team boss Richard Ollerenshaw commented: “Menasheh performed very
well again, especially when you take into account he only had about two
genuinely clear laps in each session due to the array of other cars on circuit,
such as Formula Fords, Monopostos and some historic single-seaters.
“He’s adapting very nicely to the UK-spec car and to be just a second away
from the ultimate times around Snetterton was very promising. With a few changes
we’re sure he could run in the low 1m 05 second bracket.”
Menasheh’s next track action will see a return to his regular Formula
Renault BARC car on Friday, 5th September, during a test run at Brands Hatch
Indy Circuit in Kent, before travelling to Thruxton Circuit in Hampshire on
Sunday, 7th September, for the 10th round of the Formula Renault BARC
Championship season.
Provisional 2008 Formula Renault BARC Championship Standings (after
