British Racing Drivers’ Club
Superstar Jon Lancaster will be aiming for home victory when he competes
in rounds 13 and 14 of the Formula 3 Euroseries at Brands Hatch this
weekend. The F3 rookie has produced an impressive performance against more
experienced opposition, including a Euroseries victory and third in the
Masters of F3 in his last two appearances.
The
Multiflight-backed driver makes his one and only appearance in the
UK and is determined to give the
home crowds something to cheer about aiming to repeat the feat at the
Kent track. The 19 year-old knows
that qualifying will be all-important as he bids to climb the top step of
the podium once again and that will be his prime objective on
Friday.
“It’s
important to get a good qualifying time as it’s so hard to overtake in
Formula 3 and Brands will be no exception. In the last few races we’ve
struggled slightly in that area which means we’re always on the back foot
when it comes to the races.
The race pace has always been there and has produced some good
results however I need to get near the front in
qualifying.
“Hopefully we can put that
right this weekend and start off at the front which will give us a much
better chance of getting a good finish in the opening race of the
weekend. However the
opposition is very close this season; there are a lot of quick drivers out
there many of whom are race winners so the qualifying will be a battle in
itself.
“I
like the Brands circuit though, and hopefully knowledge of the track will
give me a bit of an advantage over the others. There are some fantastic corners
like Paddock Hill Bend and Druids where it can all end in tears. While the last corner is make or
break as it’s very technical and you can’t push too much or you lose time
all the way to the line.
“It’s always very special to race in front
of a home crowd and this weekend has the extra buzz of featuring Lewis
Hamilton doing demonstration laps in the Vodafone McLaren Mercedes which
will undoubtedly bring out the crowds and produce a fantastic
atmosphere.”
The
event kicks off with free practice at 09.30 on Friday morning prior to the
all-important qualifying to determine the grid for race one, at 15.40 that
afternoon. Race one will
start at 10.50 on Saturday morning and the results of that race, with the
top eight reversed, determines the grid for race two on Sunday at
11.20.
