After
a tough weekend last time out at Knockhill, Barrow-upon-Humber racer Martyn
Bell will hope for a strong weekend at Silverstone as the HiQ MSA British
Touring Car Championship returns to the Northamptonshire circuit for the
penultimate round of the year.
The
Arkas Racing with Sunshine.co.uk driver had hoped to add to his
Independents’ point tally on the annual trip to Scotland, but saw his chances take
a hit when he was forced into retirement in the opening race of the weekend
after contact from the SEAT of Chris Stockton.
Although
he brought his Tech-Speed run Vauxhall Astra Sport Hatch home to the chequered
flag in the second and third races of the weekend, he was unable to add to his
points tally and will now aim to make amends at the Home of British Motor
Racing.
Martyn
heads into the Silverstone weekend refreshed and relaxed after a brief holiday
and admits he can’t wait to get back behind the wheel for the latest
three races of the campaign.
“Knockhill
was disappointing and the accident in the opening race set the scene for the
rest of race day,” he said. “However, I’ve been away for a
break and now I’m more relaxed and ready to go for the weekend; I’m
really looking forward to it. I like Silverstone a lot and the National circuit
is very flowing. I’m hopeful that we will run stronger there in the Astra
than when I went in the BMW back in 2006.”
Martyn
has also promised to adopt a more aggressive approach to the weekend as he
seeks to try and bring his third season in the BTCC to a positive conclusion
over the closing rounds.
“We
will have a lot of people coming along for the weekend and a lot of sponsors
watching on and I want to do well for them,” he continued. “We are
talking about next year and I want to be here again, so its time for me to
really go for it. I’ve been told to be more aggressive in my driving, and
that’s what I plan to do this weekend.”
