Wilson Brothers Racing has made a solid start to
the second round of the Australian Manufacturers Championship, with Lee
Castle quickly coming to terms with the challenging Oran Park layout.
Fresh from a new lap record at Phillip Island,
Castle was immediately on the pace on his first ever day on the circuit
behind the wheel of the team’s Subaru WRX Sti.
A quick time in
the second session of 1:19.1510 saw Castle third for the session,
however the day was more about bringing the car up the speed, and
bedding in new componentry for the weekend ahead.
Team principal Cameron Wilson was pleased with the improvement in the car over the three sessions.
“We
made small tweaks to the suspension with each of the three successive
sessions, and we are very happy to have arrived at an ultimate balance
for the Subaru this weekend,” said Wilson.
“We are very happy to be ahead of the BMWs as expected, but we are still a little bit off the Mitsubishi Evos.
“However, we know we have a good race package for Oran Park, and the WRX should be a good car over a race distance.”
For
Castle, the second round of the Australian Manufacturers Championship
represents only his fifth ever circuit race meeting, and his first at
Oran Park Grand Prix layout after years of competing on the go-kart
circuit.
“Oran Park is a really good little track in the Subaru,” said Castle.
“The car is going well, but there is still a little bit to get out of the package, and we should be right on the Evos.
“All in all, it has been a very productive day.”
The weekend features three races, starting with a straight seven lap race without a handicap start tomorrow afternoon.
