Competitive wet weather pleases Idafar PDF Print E-mail
Saturday, 06 September 2008
Hillspeed’s Menasheh Idafar produced a highly competitive performance during wet weather testing at Silverstone National Circuit yesterday, Friday, 5th September – the run coming as ideal preparation for what could potentially be a rain affected 10th round of the Formula Renault BARC season at Thruxton in Hampshire tomorrow.
Re-adapting to his FR2000 Class racer after making his Formula 3 test debut earlier in the week at Pembrey in a Carlin Motorsport-run National Class car, Menasheh took the opportunity to run at Silverstone which will be the venue for the Formula Renault BARC Championship finale in early October.
Posting a best time of 1m 07.6 seconds on unofficial timings, the 17-year-old made good progress with his wet-weather performance as the team worked on some different settings throughout the day. Furthermore, the British-born Bahraini had no problems familiarising himself with his regular Formula Renault BARC car.
Menasheh’s driver coach, British Racing Drivers’ Club (BRDC) Rising Star Matt Shawyer, said: “Friday’s run went very well. It was good to have a full day of wet testing and we found a lot of time. We’re still making very good progress with the wet set-up and that could be very useful at Thruxton on Sunday if it’s raining, which it might be.”
With rain having been prevalent in the south of England today, Saturday, 6th September, there is a strong possibility Sunday’s event at Thruxton, near Andover, could well be wet so Menasheh’s test miles at Silverstone may prove to be vital in terms of preparation.
With no practice session at Thruxton ahead of this weekend’s 10th round of the Formula Renault BARC season, Menasheh will head straight into qualifying tomorrow morning, Sunday, 7th September, at 11.30. The race itself, which will be contested over 14 laps, will get underway at approximately 15.10.
Provisional 2008 Formula Renault BARC Championship Standings (after Rd9):
1st Ollie Hancock, 117pts; 2nd Johannes Seidlitz, 71pts; 4th Menasheh Idafar, 61pts
