Glenfords Racing Takes Home Biggest Point Haul From Darwin PDF Print E-mail
Sunday, 02 July 2006
Glenfords Racing's collected their largest points of the season in another positive step forward, despite a setback in the reverse grid race today.

With all eyes fixed on the reverse grid race, Marshall made a clean start and headed down the long Hidden Valley straight avoiding the dramas that often unfold.

After gaining a number of positions, Marshall suffered heavy contact from behind on lap six which damaged the diff housing, forcing the Glenfords AEG driver to nurse the car through the race.

Pressing on, Marshall made the most of the situation in an attempt to salvage points, and improve his final starting position for race three. Struggling with a damaged car for the majority of the race, Marshall managed to bring the car home in 26th position.

Between races, the Glenfords crew worked feverishly to replace the damaged diff housing, sustained when Cameron McConville ran into the back of Marshall's Falcon on lap six in race two.

With the Glenfords AEG V8 Supercar fixed, Marshall started in 28th for the final race of the round and made another clean start in the Glenfords AEG Falcon.

Gaining two spots early, Marshall consolidated his position before an incident with Steven Johnson forced Marshall to run wide and off the track, costing five positions.

The compulsory pit stop, which the Glenfords team again completed without fault on lap 12, allowed Marshall to get some fresh tyres on a track heating up quickly under the Darwin sun.

As has been the case for the season to date, Marshall's car speed continued to improve, recording the 16th fastest time for the race on lap 16 with a 1:11.2751.

With the field spread, Marshall set about reeling in Brad Jones over the final 20 laps, consistently chipping away at the gap with strong lap times, however time ran out for before a serious challenge could be mounted.

After the disappointment of race two, Marshall consolidated the round and rose to 25th at the races end to gain 90 points for the championship and finish in 26th for the weekend.

Marshall and the Glenfords Racing team currently sit in 29th position on 331 points in the championship after gaining their biggest points haul for a round in their short V8 Supercar history.

ARCUS MARSHALL "Obviously the incident in race two today set us back a bit but the car was really good.the guys replaced the diff for race three and the car felt great, we got a good start and caught a number of positions in a pretty hectic opening lap.'

"I got run off the track at one stage but managed to get back on the track and after our pitstop the car really started to work well and our times were well inside the top 20."

"It was the most positive step forward we've made this year."
PAUL CRUICKSHANK "We made another small step here this weekend, we had our biggest point haul and finished all three races which is another positive."

"We had a bit of an incident in race two which is a bit disappointing but I'm pretty happy with our first meeting up here."

"We head to Queensland Raceway for the next round which is our test track so we are looking forward to a strong round there."
