West Yorkshire saloon car racer Daniel Lloyd has one thing in his sights
next weekend, 20th/21st September, when the Ginetta Junior Championship reaches
its conclusion – to enjoy a sparkling end to his maiden season of car racing
action
Rounds 23 and 24 of the campaign will take place at Brands Hatch Indy
Circuit, the second time the Ginetta Juniors will have visited the Kent venue
this year, and with a full season of experience now behind him 16-year-old
Daniel is hoping to be in a position to challenge for a double podium finish
next weekend.
To date this year, the Scammonden based youngster has taken three race
victories and one other rostrum result. Ahead of the final two rounds of the
2008 season, Daniel is in fourth position in the championship standings with a
26 point cushion over closest rival Jake Farndon on overall scores.
It’s important to remember though, at the conclusion of next Sunday’s final
race of the season all competitors will have to ‘drop’ their four worst scores
of the year before calculating the end of season totals. Therefore, the outcome
of both Brands Hatch races could have a major bearing on final positions in the
driver standings.
“We’ve been running a strong pace for a while now but the results haven’t
always been as consistent as we’d have liked, hopefully it’ll all come together
at Brands Hatch and we’ll have some good success”, commented Daniel.
“Brands is one of the first tracks I ever tested at and was the first
circuit I raced at earlier this year. It’ll be really interesting to go back and
see how much we’ve improved since the first two rounds. I reckon it’ll be very
close next weekend and the podium places could be anyone’s, it’s that sort of
track.”
Daniel added: “I do like Brands Indy and it’s a really good circuit to
drive. At the start of the year we were still finding our feet but I’m sure
we’ll be in better shape this time as it’ll be like seeing the track with
different eyes now we have more experience. Hopefully we’ll get some good
results to end the year well.”
Following pre-event practice on Friday, 19th September, qualifying for
rounds 23 and 24 of the 2008 Ginetta Junior Championship will take place at
11.15 on Saturday, 20th September, with the first race of the weekend getting
underway at around 16.25.
Round 24 is timetabled to start at approximately 12.25 on Sunday, 21st
September, and is expected to be screened live on Freeview, digital satellite
and cable channel ITV4.
