Britek Motorsport Scholarship driver Ben Walter (Hobart, Tas) in the Road Solutions entry has finished the sixth round of the Genuine Ford Parts Australian Formula Ford Series at Phillip Island in fourth place overall.
Driving the Minda Motorsports prepared entry, Walter enjoyed his best weekend of the year qualifying in seventh, before finishing seventh in race #1 and #2, then took fifth place in race #3. “I have been very happy with how I drove this weekend,” said Walter. “I feel like I have made a big gain. “From the outset I had good pace and we carried that speed from practice through qualifying and into the races. “The races themselves were pretty exciting with lots of slipstreaming. At times we gained and lost spots numerous times just in the one lap, so it was good to come out towards the front. “Next race is in my home state in Tassie and I’m really looking forward to further improvement that weekend.” Minda Motorsport team principal Bruin Beasley was pleased with Walter’s performance and that of Martin Swindells (Brisbane, Qld) in the Refrigerated Rental & Sales entry who took third place in race #3 and finished eighth overall. “A good overall perfoamce from Ben and it was great to see Martin score a top-three finish in the final race,” said Beasley. “The boys drove very well on what is the highest speed track that we visit. “It is pleasing to see them grow in confidence and I’m sure they will show further improvement down at Symmons Plains in Tasmania in November.” After missing the previous two rounds, Geelong's Taylor Gore (Menzel Glass) scored a best race result of 11th in race #3. In other Britek Motorsport Scholarship news, Scott McLaughlin was victorious in one of Australia's most prestigious junior karting events, the Junior Sprint Classic, at the Seymour International Raceway in Puckapunyal, Victoria over the weekend. McLaughlin won his division of the Junior Clubman category, which attracted no less than 46 competitors, aboard his Australian-made Arrow kart before going on to take out the 'Champion of Champions' race.
