| Marcus Marshall welcomes Webb into V8's |
Glenfords Racing today announced Carrera Cup front-runner Jonathon Webb as co-driver to Marcus Marshall in the two V8 Supercar endurance races this year.
Webb is currently the only driver to be making his debut in a V8 Supercar in the classic enduro's and, with only a handful of seats to be filled, is likely to be the only rookie V8 driver on the grid, a point not lost on team owner Paul Cruickshank.
"We want to bring young talent through our organisation and give them opportunities in the biggest races of them all.Jonathon has done everything right to earn this spot, not just this season but since he joined PCR (Paul Cruickshank Racing) in our first season, so the timing is perfect for all involved," Team Owner Paul Cruickshank said.
For Webb, the opportunity to race at Bathurst in one of the great motor racing events in the world is almost too good to be true.
"This is a dream come true.as a driver you dream of racing the V8's around Bathurst in 'the Great Race' and I can't thank Paul and the Glenfords Racing crew for this awesome opportunity," an elated Jonathon Webb said today.
The announcement comes after Webb impressed all at the team's last two test sessions, setting a series of consistent and fast laps in both dry and wet conditions.
"Jonathon has had a two tests in the Glenfords AEG V8 and was impressive in a range of dry and wet conditions, which is important given the unpredictable weather conditions at two tracks he will be racing at." Cruickshank said
Webb, who has been with Paul Cruickshank Racing since January 2003 in the Carrera Cup series has had a string of outstanding results that helped pave the way for his V8 Supercar debut later this year.
After delivering PCR their first pole, race and round win last season, Webb finished the season in third position and this year has consistently been running in the top five in his Glenfords-Makita GT3 Porsche.
Webb will race this weekend in round three of the Carrera Cup Championship alongside team mates Alex Davison and David Wall, while his future V8 team mate Marcus Marshall will also be trackside racing in round five of the V8 Supercar Championship at Hidden Valley, Darwin from June 30-July 2.
