Bournemouth's Jonathan Legris put himself back on the podium with a
solid drive to 3rd in class after a disappointing qualifying. Jonathan
found himself wound up on the back end of the very competitve field in
17th after qualifying, at the Circuito de Ricardo Tormo, Valencia,
after the 2000 car Jonathan drives struggled massively on the aero
circuit compared to the newer 2006 and 2008 cars. The lap that he
managed to produce though was only 3 tenths shy of a top ten so the
general pace was there for a good race.
Jonathan, who runs the only 8 year old car on the grid, made a
fantastic start, jostling for space and placing his car in the right
position to end the lap in tenth, where he would stay until a lengthy
safety car period. This however stole 5 laps from the race and it would
be a 6 lap sprint to the end.
Another great start for the youngster
saw him immediately attacking Nelson Panciatici, the current overall
championship leader, before a late lunge from fellow Brit Will Bratt
and a bit of contact would leave Jonathan running to 11th, albeit with
relative ease.
The start of race two saw another great get-away
but while on the move through the field, Jonathan came across a very
side ways Adrian Campos Suner half way around the lap, and most of the
progress made. Further attacks though soon found him back in the top
ten, and a run to 8th place overall and 3rd in class was all possible
from a tough weekend.
'We did not expect a podium after
qualifying as the field was so close, so to come back with another
trophy is great. I was in the fight for second but just couldnt pull
off a worthy attack so i settled for points' Said Jonathan. He
continued to say, ' Its been similar to albacete where the car did not
work compared to the others but we still pulled out a surprise in the
race and thats what counts'.
Jonathan is back on home turf to
compete in the final round of the British F3 International series next
weekend with Litespeed F3 before venturing out to Jerez, Spain, for the
penultimate round of the Spanish F3 Championship.
