A1 Team Malaysia has
unveiled its new pit crew helmets created from the winning design in a recent A1
team Malaysia Fan Club competition.
Megat Shazreal Naim’s design was chosen to feature on the mechanic’s
helmets which are used during the pit stops at each race weekend. His creativity has won him a trip to the
season finale at Brands Hatch in May next year.
The team launched the helmet design
competition at the end of last season, challenging fans to submit designs which
reflected the team’s identity, incorporated aspects of the national flag and
fitted with the livery of the car. The fans responded with entries which showed
both creativity and design flair, with over 30 designs submitted from across
Malaysia.
The winning entry from Megat Shazreal
Naim features the core bright yellow and black of the team and car -, whilst
also incorporating aspects of the Jalur Gemilang (the Malaysian national Flag).
A1 Team Malaysia’s helmet supplier, Sol Helmets, joined
A1 Team Malaysia judges to select the winning
entry and with a unanimous decision the winning design was selected. The
winner’s prize includes a trip to Brands Hatch in the UK for the final
round of the 2008/09 A1GP World Cup of Motorsport and his own helmet autographed
by the team. The final design will be in use at the first round of the series in
Zandvoort this weekend.
Three runners up in the competition were
also announced with Yazid Yusof, Danny Choo, Alvin Lim winning tickets to A1
Team Malaysia’s home race at
the Sepang Circuit in Malaysia in November, as guests of
the team.
A1 Team Malaysia’s Fan
Club Manager, Azrai Razuan, commented on receiving the helmets for despatch to
Zandvoort, “There were plenty of original and creative helmet liveries submitted
for the competition with our Malaysian fans showing imagination and design
flair. The winning design is highly visible, distinctive and is in keeping with
the yellow livery that we are known for, which is exactly what we wanted. With
three pit stops each race weekend this season the helmet will be on display
regularly and with this great new design, we know that all fans will notice us
in the pit lane and cheer us on even more.”
