Reinvigorated Metcalfe Very Happy With Snetterton Test PDF Print E-mail
Tuesday, 27 June 2006
Hampshire race ace Jeremy Metcalfe returned to his rightful place among the Formula Renault UK front-runners at Snetterton today having enjoyed an excellent test session with his AKA Lemac team at the dry, but cloudy, Norfolk venue.

The 18-year-old, who is backed this season by BillChaser, certainly made amends for a disappointing championship outing during rounds seven and eight just over a week ago and is now fully focused on moving back up the driver standings and challenging for podium finishes during the next instalment of the season at Croft on 15th/16th July.

Jeremy ended today’s official test with a best lap of 1m 05.386 seconds (107.47mph), good enough for sixth position overall on the combined timesheets. Importantly though, the Fleet teenager didn’t use new tyres at all during the test and was therefore delighted to conclude the day just a couple of 10ths of a second adrift of the top three.

“It’s been a good day and we were easily fast enough so I’m very happy”, commented a buoyant Jeremy, “Those ahead of us on the timesheets had new tyres and we remained an old rubber all day so we’re feeling very confident.

“It would have been a battle to try and take the top spot away from Paddy (Hogan; AKA Lemac team-mate) but had we used new tyres I’m sure we would have been second fastest overall at least.

“It’s been a very encouraging test and has been a lot better than Knockhill. We’ve learned a lot with the set-up for the Snetterton races in August and I’m confident ahead of Croft now too. We know we’re strong there, so I’m really looking forward to the next two rounds of the championship.”

Jeremy’s next on-track action will be at North Yorkshire’s Croft Circuit less than three weeks from now, 15th/16th July, for rounds nine and 10 of the season. The race meeting will mark Formula Renault UK’s return to the British Touring Car Championship support package following the single-seater category’s stand-alone event at Knockhill last month.
