NO SHOOTOUT FOR BRIGHT – 100% FOCUS ON THE BIG RACE PDF Print E-mail
Friday, 10 October 2008
Fujitsu Racing’s Jason Bright has missed the top-10 shootout for the Supercheap Auto Bathurst 1000 by just 0.2 of second.

The Fujitsu Racing crew will now turn all their attention to Sunday’s 1000-kilometre classic without the distraction of the top-10 shootout tomorrow afternoon. Bright and co-driver Adam Macrow will have the final happy hour practice session tomorrow morning to fully prepare for the race.

“I really wanted to make the top-10,” said Bright.

“The car was good, but just not that little bit better to make the shootout.

“In the grand scheme of things it is Sunday that matters and we are starting from the sixth row so we are close to the front. Ten years ago I came from 15th on the grid and won.

“I don’t mind not grabbing the limelight tomorrow – Sunday is a different story.”

Adam Macrow only had limited running in the morning’s practice session following a massive accident involving Paul Weel and Chris Pither. The accident brought a long delay to the session and the team decided it best not to return to the circuit for the few minutes that were made available.

“I only got three laps in before the delay,” said Macrow.

“With a lot of rubbish still on the circuit it was best that we stayed in the pits and concentrated on Jason having plenty of time for qualifying.

“Overall I’m pleased with the car. For me it was more about ensuring it would feel good for the race and that is what we have.

“I’ll get plenty of time tomorrow and then a few laps during the Sunday warm-up.”

Fujitsu Racing Chief Engineer Geoff Slater was already planning for the race.

“Making the top-10 would have been a great reward for the crew,” said Slater.

“However, you must remember this is a very long race and it’s not about who gets to the first corner.

“Our race package is extremely strong and with an advantage in our engine department we remain positive of being in the mix come Sunday afternoon.”

Tomorrow’s one-hour practice session gets underway at 10am.
