General Manager appointed for Repco Rally Australia |

Former Rally New Zealand General Manager Gary Upson has been appointed as the new General Manager of Australia’s round of the FIA World Rally Championship (WRC), the Repco Rally Australia, which will be conducted in Northern NSW on September 3-6 2009.
Upson, 41, is well known in WRC circles having managed the New Zealand event from 1998 until 2005, during which time the event won the prestigious Rally of the Year Award. He is currently the Brand Manager for Land Rover New Zealand.
“I am really excited at the prospect of helping to bring the spectacle and thrill of the WRC to the East Coast of Australia for the first time,” said Upson.
“Northern NSW, and particularly the Tweed/Kyogle region, is a fantastic area to truly showcase the beauty of Australia to the world via this event.
“I am looking forward to working with our sponsors Repco, Events NSW and the team of almost 2000 CAMS officials and staff who will make this a great motor sport event.”
Gary, his wife Nicola and two children will take up residence on the Tweed Coast within the next few weeks. A new Repco Rally Australia office will be established in Murwillumbah early in November.
