As the second-tier series in Australian motorsport continues to grow, the calendar for its fourth season has been announced, with Wakefield Park and Queensland Raceway returning to the program and the series lining up for its first visit to Winton Motor Raceway.

Shannons Insurance will continue to support the series, with 2009 their third year as naming rights sponsor.

"After three years of steady growth, we're looking forward to the fourth season of the Shannons Nationals," series director Rob Curkpatrick said.

"We're pleased with how the calendar has come together and excited to be going back to Wakefield Park and Queensland Raceway, and visiting Winton for the first time.

"Having all 10 rounds at 10 different circuits is a big step forward for us as we continue to grow.

" Shannons has been a great partner of the series and we're thrilled to have them on board again next year."

The 2009 season will kick off at the famed Mount Panorama in Bathurst , supporting the WPS Bathurst 12 Hour on 20-21 February.

The 2009 season will kick off at the famed Mount Panorama in Bathurst , supporting the WPS Bathurst 12 Hour on 20-21 February.

Regular mid-season rounds at Phillip Island , Mallala Motorsport Park and Eastern Creek are joined by Wakefield Park in April, Winton in June and Queensland Raceway in August.

It will be the series' first visit to Wakefield Park since it held the inaugural round of the Shannons Nationals in 2006, while Queensland Raceway returns to the calendar after an absence of one season.

Following the popular annual trip Symmons Plains in Tasmania , Sandown Raceway in will again host the season finale in the last weekend of November.

The overall group of categories running with the Shannons Nationals next year will remain the same, with individual categories currently organising their schedules.

Arrangements for each category are expected to be finalised over the coming weeks.

The first series to announce their plans is the Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge, which will be held over six rounds and become a core category of the Shannons Nationals in its second season.

"We've received strong interest from existing categories and have options to add to the program," Curkpatrick said.

"We're currently working through the process of determining who will run where.

"The Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge had a very successful debut season and I'm sure they'll build on that next year."

Round Nine of the 2008 Shannons Nationals will be held at South Australia 's Mallala Motorsport Park on 1-2 November.

The penultimate event of the year will feature the Tankworld Australian Supertruck Nationals finale, a unique Commodore Cup endurance race format and the Supaloc Australian Saloon Cars.

Formula Vee, the Australian Superkart Championship and South Australian Group N Historic Touring Cars complete the card.
