SCHOOL'S OUT AND RACING IS IN FOR FOSTER THIS WEEKEND PDF Print E-mail
Monday, 17 November 2008
For the past few weeks Brisbane teenage Nick Foster has spent every waking hour with his head down in his text books preparing for his year 11 exams at John Paul College.
The 16-year-old will completed his Maths and Physics exams yesterday and will sit his English exam this afternoon. At the completion of today’s test Foster’s focus will immediately turn towards this weekend’s seventh round of the Genuine Ford Parts Australian Formula Ford Championship in Tasmania.

Foster has continually improved since making his debut in the open-wheel category at the start of the year to now be a regular finisher inside the top ten. With six rounds of experience now under his belt, Foster is setting his sights on moving closer to the front of the field aboard the #13 Steeline Metal Framing Systems Mygale.

“Over the past couple of weeks my number one priority has been to study for my exams but once they are out of the way I’ll be spending a heap of time on my racing simulator to practice for this weekend’s race,” said Foster.

“At the start of the year we made some really good improvements in pretty quick time but then seemed to level out for a couple of rounds in the middle of the championship. Now it’s time to finish the year off with some good results – beginning this weekend in Tasmania.

“Qualifying at Symmons Plains is going to be vital. In the previous round of the championship at Phillip Island I had some good speed during the races but because I didn’t qualify so well it was tough to transfer this speed into an overall result.”

While Foster has never raced at the Symmons Plains circuit previously, and has only been to Tasmania for a family holiday when he was a young child, he is excited about the weekend ahead.

“Since moving from karts and into Formula Ford I’ve spent all year learning about the car and new tracks, it has all been a new experience for me. This weekend is no different,” said Foster.

“The track layout seems quite simple but one where a minor mistake can cost you a fair bit of time. I think having a car that is settled under braking is going to be vital because if you can be settled going into the corner it will allow you to maintain that momentum on the exit.”

Foster will take to the Symmons Plains circuit for a pair of practice sessions on Friday prior to qualifying and the opening 15-lap encounter being contested on Saturday. The round will be highlighted by a further two 15-lap races on Sunday.
